Description
The P.E.I. Food Technology Centre (FTC) is seeking a Natural Products Biochemist to work with a team
of scientists to deliver the “Atlantic Natural Products Development Initiative”, an Atlantic Innovation
Fund initiative. The Biochemist is responsible to be a lead scientist in the design and delivery of
bio-extraction projects and to assure that the projects are carried out according to proposal plan, schedule
and budget. The Biochemist is primarily focussed on assessment of biomaterials to establish the
potential bioactive chemicals to target for extraction. In this capacity he/she assists other members of the
team in identifying bioactives and provides analytical interpretation on extracts obtained.

Qualifications
• Ph.D. in biochemistry (with a natural products focus)
• 3-5 years experience working in a project- driven organization.
• A high level of knowledge in extraction systems and methods.
• Excellent working knowledge of natural products compounds and their extraction and applications.
• Ability to work with industry clients and to innovate and deliver scientific projects on budget and on
time.
• Strong project management skills
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Strong written and verbal English skills
• Advanced computer literacy
• Must be eligible to work in Canada
Salary -$48,824 to $61,030
Position Status - Term contract to September, 2008
