Description


We are seeking a research associate with a proven research record in the areas of cell biology, biochemistry, and immunology, to join a Chemaphor biology group located within the Industrial Partnership facility at the National Research Council of Canada’s Institute of Nutrisciences and Health in picturesque Charlottetown, PEI, Canada. The successful applicant will be responsible for implementing and executing scientific research in characterization of chemical fractions and compounds obtained from a unique, proprietary source in order to select candidates for nutritional and therapeutic development. The research associate will participate in development of biological assays and technologies to yield a better understanding of compound efficacy, selectivity, and toxicity. An excellent command in the development, optimization, and validation of biological assays and relevant hands-on experience is required.
General responsibilities and duties:

• Maintenance of tissue culture related to the bioassay work
• Development and optimization of assays to measure biological potency of new drug candidates
• Development and execution of written protocols and SOP's
• Evaluation and documentation of study results in a timely, accurate, and complete manner
• Effective and prompt communication with management and peers
• Maintenance of laboratory work environment, including instrumentation, lab equipment, and lab supplies


Qualifications


• BS/MS in biological sciences with > 5 years of laboratory experience in the academic or biotech/pharmaceutical laboratory
• Demonstrated familiarity with a variety of biological cell based assay formats, such as cell proliferation, differentiation, ELISA, Western and Northern blot analysis, protein, DNA and RNA isolation
• Hands on experience with mammalian cell culture techniques, and assay development procedures
• Ability to work in a focused, methodical and organized fashion, within a team, to meet team goals and objectives
• Ability to make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret study results
• Ability to work both independently and interactively within a team environment
• Familiarity with common computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Prism
